Kevin Downswell
Artist Biography
Ladies and Gentlemen, we introduce to you, International Recording Artiste Kevin Downswell.
He is a Jamaican born Gospel Recording Artiste, who discovered that he was blessed with the gift to sing at a very tender age. He won the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) Gospel Festival Competition in July of 2003 with the song “Praise”; a National event that sees hundreds of entrants each year, and is also broadcasted to millions of viewers across Jamaica and overseas. It was through this competition that the world was first introduced to the gift within this man of God. During this time, Minister Downswell had been faithfully serving in his local church in Kingston, Jamaica for over 12 years, where he was at that time, the Director for the church’s Worship and Music Ministries, as well as the leader for the Youth and Men’s Chorale.
He was ordained to the office of an Evangelist in 2005, the very same year he graduated from The University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biochemistry. He has always recognized God’s voice to be the most important compass to follow in life, and as such it was the trustworthy voice of the Lord that led him to become a full-time Minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ a few months later. The transition was far from easy, since Kevin’s intention was really to become a Medical Doctor. He trusted however the direction the Lord was leading him, and with prayer and wise counsel, he fully accepted the calling of God for his life…You will hear him say quite often, that to obey is better than to sacrifice, as he personally knows that it is only in obeying God’s voice that one finds true prosperity and peace, but disobeying the Lord will only lead to unnecessary struggle and pain. Today, he has no regrets, as God has blessed him tremendously on this path.
Kevin Downswell has the heart of a worshipper and loves the Lord with all his heart, and so whether on or off stage, his prerogative is always in maintaining the presence of the Lord. This man of God carries an exceptional anointing on his life, and you will immediately sense this the minute he opens his mouth to sing any song from his repertoire. Min. Downswell is happily married to Marsha, and loves His wife dearly.
Kevin Downswell’s first major hit song came in the year 2006 with the song entitled ‘Naah Bow”, which is collaboration with DJ Nicholas and Jermaine Edwards. This song received the 2006 Caribbean Gospel Music Awards (A.K.A Marlin Awards) Reggae Recording of the year. Min. Kevin Downswell’s Album: “Close to You” has 15 tracks and certain songs such as Still Stand, Shout, Nothing Just Happens, I can feel Your Glory, Change is Coming, and Joy will draw you closer to the Lord and will strengthen your faith in God. The title track Close to You was accorded the 2010 Marlin Awards, Praise and Worship Recording of the year. Songs from the album are now being played on radio stations across the U.S, Canada, the Caribbean, the U.K, East Africa and even some countries in Asia. Kevin Downswell has shared the stage with international artistes and Ministers such as Donnie McClurkin, Bishop Paul Morton, Rev. John Hagee Byron Cage, Kirk Franklin, Michael W. Smith, Jamal Bryant, Tye Tribbett, Micah Stampley, Marvin Winans Jr., and Papa San to name a few . Kevin was also blessed when he met International and World renowned Author and teacher Dr. Myles Munroe in 2009, and man of God Kevin highly respects. Dr Monroe’s book “In Pursuit of Purpose” was vital in helping to give him some much need clarity at a time when he needed it the most. Dr. Monroe was blessed by Kevin’s Ministry and personally and publicly endorsed his Album “Close To You”.
Amidst all these accolades, however, what has blessed him the most are the many testimonies from persons who have and are been touched through his Ministry. Families have been restored; relationships healed; hopes renewed and lives completely changed by the power and presence of God. And we all say, To God be the Glory…
Minister Downswell has three new singles currently in rotation, which are already receiving great attention locally and abroad: “That’s Enough” – a collaboration with Prodigal Son, is currently one of Jamaica, New York and Miami‘s top Jamaican Gospel Songs, and was awarded the Best Collaboration in Jamaica in April of 2011 by the Paramount Mega Gospel Awards. “Forgiven” and “God is moving” which are his other two New Singles are both doing exceptionally well.
Kevin is currently looking forward to the release of his sophomore album which promises to be a blessing. Today he travels the world with only one priority on his mind, and that is to serve and to give God his all. He reminds young people each and everywhere, that THEY CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST WHO STRENGTHENS THEM. (Phil 4:13) He challenges them to strive to discover who they are in God.
