Story behind that’s enough”
By Kevin Downswell
I have always wanted to do this song, but as usual, its not me to just get up and do something sporadic, The Lord has to give me His permission.
In June of 2010 I felt the urge to return to do this song. I brought it back to the Lord, and he said “yes, it’s time”.
You see, I don’t think I was at the place to deliver this song the way it should really be delivered the first time though I had the desire to do it. That could have been the reason why the Lord had said no in the first place. Not every Good Idea is a “God” Idea.
The very minute I knew the Lord wanted me to do it, I approached Danny Brownie. And He being as gifted as he is took the song from an idea to what it is today.
And of course Prodigal Son, who brought the song to another level. Let me tell you, Prodigal Son is so anointed and chosen. I honor him for the work he did on this song. I personally believe that we have not seen half of what God has in store for him yet.
Something funny and interesting happened when the song was finished.
When I picked up the finished product from Danny Brownie, and was on my way from his studio, a radio programme was on and it was talking about Mephibosheth.
Read 2 Sam 4.4; 2 Samuel 9; 2 Sam 19.24-30 and 2 Sam 21.1-7
You see, Saul’s son Jonathan had a son named Mephibosheth, who was crippled as a child. He was five years old when the report came from Jezreel that Saul and Jonathan (Mephibosheth’s father) had been killed in battle. When the child’s nurse heard the news, she picked him up and fled. But as she hurried away, she dropped him, and he became crippled.
A long time passed and David wanted to show kindness to anyone of Saul’s descendant who was still alive. This happened to be Mephibosheth, who by now must have felt forgotten and forlorn, and who interestingly lived in a place called Lo-debar (meaning no pasture- or barren).
Long Story made short, Mephibosheth, who seemed to have been forgotten, was promoted and given all the land that belonged to his grandfather Saul and ate at the King’s table quite often.
I did not get the chance to listen to the whole programme, but all I remember are the two words “sought” and “brought”.
You see, the Lord used that programme to really bring home this song to me.
Like Mephibosheth, we were in a terrible state- I was in a terrible state. And some terrible things happened to us. Some of us got written off by people, some of us the very persons we were counting on in the first place to have our backs, let us down. BUT GOD in all His mercy sought after us. He combed through all the mess and dirt. You see, we can never be too messed up that God can’t take our mess and make us His message to the rest of the world. Satan comes to steal and to wreck us, but not God. His plan is to restore and bring us into what was originally ours and to cause us to eat from His table.
Like Mephibosheth who was lame in both feet, I was helpless. I could not do much all by myself, BUT GOD... The very land God restored to Mephibosheth, David had to fight for, but not Mephibosheth, It was just given to him. When you are a conqueror, you fight for yourself, but if you are more than a conqueror, someone else fights your battles.
You see, Like David, we need to know that Jesus is everything and more. We don’t need to fight any man fist to fist, it is God who fights our battles and we shall recover all. Even if someone occupies something God promised you is yours, by the time you’re ready, you shall have it. Be still and know that He is God.
And as Mephibosheth was humble before the king, lets remember that it is He who brought us out, not ourselves.
I could go on, but this song “That’s enough” is my testimony and your testimony of God’s unfailing love and goodness.
Be blessed and to God be all the Glory.
